WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION

Opening and Closing Chants of Ashtanga

Friday 18:30 - 20:30

Chanting at the beginning of our practice helps focus our attention and bring ourselves into the present moment preparing the space to practice yoga, reminding us we are practicing something precious and sacred.

In this workshop we will explore the history and significance of these two chants.
Sharing correct pronunciation, its importance as well as a clear translation bringing deeper meanings behind these sacred words.

The ancient practice of chanting works at a subconscious level and can be used to purify mental and physical blockages within in the body. Through continual practice of mantras (vibrational sounds) one can become energised and peaceful helping to maintain equilibrium within the self. From a scientific aspect it has been said that chanting holds several calming, therapeutic, psychological and spiritual benefits.

Pranayama & Chanting

A brief introduction to Traditional Pranayama as taught by O.P. Tiwariij followed by chanting a series of stotrams and mantras to invoke the divine.

Mysore style classes

Saturday & Sunday 9:00 - 11:00

Moving through your personal ashtanga sequence at your own pace with the guidance of an experienced teacher to guide you further.

Form, Function & Philosophy I. & II.

Saturday 12:00 - 13:30 & 14:30 - 16:00

We will be exploring both theory and practical bringing together of Tara and Robs’ unique blend of knowledge.

From the anatomical point of view you will learn ways how to practice safely, avoid injury and maintain the benefits of your practice. Dr. Rob will discuss key regions in the body, how they are designed to move and then review different ways asana can be practiced. We will also review the design and function of the body and the common ways that strain can occur. Tara will review different asanas and discuss how they can be safely performed as well as offering modifications that will carry the same benefit as the posture in its full form.

If time allows we will explore low back problems and how to effectively manage them through yoga asana. We will review basic anatomy and the mechanics of the lower back. Combining insights from chiropractic, yoga therapy, modern scientific research and clinical experience.

Ashtanga Yoga or 8-limbed yoga is an 8-part method as referenced in the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. Tara will move through each of these limbs discussing them from a philosophical lens while highlighting how you can integrate these eight limbs of ashtanga yoga into our modern daily life. Linking Traditional Yoga to Everyday Life.

The Diet/Mind Connection & Ayurveda

Sunday 12:00 - 13:30

Learn how to nourish the body, to keep digestion (agni) healthy and other ways to create better balance for your constitution. These ideas come from Ayurveda, natural health and many years of studying nutrition and putting it into practice.

In this workshop we will discuss:

Our feelings and immunity are connected to the food we eat

How the food we eat affects both our mental and physical health.

Food & Mood – the common connection between the two. Exploring this idea deeper by looking at not only what we eat, but how we eat, when we eat and the preparation of the meal.

Linking how these factors contribute to the intelligent connection between food (nourishment) and the mind (manas).

Agni (digestive fire), ways to determine your current digestion and needs to replenish and nurture your body and mind.

Only when body is clean can healing and clarity expand.

Dr. ROB LAMPORT

Dr. Rob has been a yoga practitioner for nearly 25 years, a Doctor of Chiropractic and have been helping people move towards health since 2000.

His fascination with the body and mind traces back to when he was 17 and on his way to a professional golf career. Dreams of becoming a Professional Golfer crushed by debilitating back pain sent Rob Lamport on an epic search in Secret India for the esoteric teachings that could free him from his body pain. Since then, his yoga practice and studies have only deepened that fascination. He lived in Mysore and practised with B.N.S Iyengar as well as Pattabhi Jois and Sharath Jois.

"When I was 23, I decided I wanted to become a yoga teacher and completed my teacher training one year later, in 1999. I could not wait to get started on this new adventure. However, it was not long before I realised that I really did not know enough to be teaching. I began questioning what was I asking people to do with their bodies? Was I actually helping them? Or was I potentially going to make them worse? And on a personal level, what was the real effect of all the advanced asana I was practicing?"

After his first trip to Mysore he swore to never go back to India but after a few months away, he began to miss it and so decided to return and spent the next three years living there. Dr. Rob became a fixture in the Gokulam community as a go to guy for putting overzealous yoga folks back together!

You’ll find Rob is a pretty humble and private guy. Now living in Italy, he continues to be fully dedicated to his yoga practice with a strong focus on pranayama, learning from Sri. O.P Tiwari. He loves to cook!

He offers online yoga anatomy courses for complete beginners and for those yoga instructors with previous experience. They offer insights into muscular and joint movement learned through modern medical research and clinical experience. Each course includes a basic understanding of anatomy and function, describes the most common conditions, and how to manage them through yoga medicine.

He is the founder of More Than Anatomy, an online platform for yoga anatomy studies.
